june women of ambient π
Welcome to a new month of my mix series celebrating women in ambient music. This time around, Iβm shifting gears a bit: instead of a continuous mix, Iβm embracing Bandcampβs newly launched playlist feature to curate this monthβs selections. This format gives each piece its own space while still forming a cohesive journey. For tracks not available on Bandcamp, you'll still find them in the accompanying playlist versions (Tidal, Amazon Music, still hoping to add to Apple + Spotify)βbut I encourage you to seek out and support the artists whose work resonates with you. For paid subscribers, I'm also going to start sharing periodic exclusive marine eyes materialβthank you for being part of this evolving space!
This monthβs mix featuresβ
Kanako Yamamoto- Kanakoβs latest EP LA Silhouettes is a return to her roots on the Guzheng, the instrument she mastered as a child prodigy in China before walking away for over a decade. Produced by Joel Shearer (Alanis Morissette, guitarist on many film scores), the EP blends her classical past with a modern, cinematic sound thatβs entirely her own.
Tracy Chow- Florida-based multi-instrumentalist and ambient composer Tracy Chow often leans into the Americana side of things and her new EP Postscards from a Dying Dream is a gem. I first heard of her through
, who also tipped me off to this beautiful new release of hers. Thanks TSMM!DemiMa- DemiMa is a singer, writer, ambient soundscape artist, poet, event producer, and yogi raised in both south west London and kwa-Zulu South Africa. Her latest EP Duality Pt 2: Peace has her leaning into her peaceful side more than ever, resulting in this beautiful blend of ambient, jazz and soul.
Sofie Birch + Antonina Nowacka- Recorded mostly in the open air of rural Poland using just acoustic instruments and a reel-to-reel tape machine, the second collaborative album from Sofie Birch and Antonina Nowackaβout July 18 via Polish label Unsoundβpromises to be something truly special.
- returns to the Balmat imprint run by Albert Salinas and with her album, Hrafnamynd, out in full on July 11th. This album also serves as the soundtrack to Edward Pack Daveeβs documentary of the same nameβan autobiographical exploration of Icelandic landscapes, folklore, and ravens. Patricia, who was featured on my 2022 compilation Healing Together, continues to craft deeply immersive work that bridges sound, memory, and the natural world.
Kaela- Kaelaβs debut album Supraliminal is a carefully crafted blend of ambient textures and subtle pop, offering a reflective and immersive listening experience. Out in 2025 on M83βs Anthony Gonzalezβs new label Other Suns (Kaela is also a member of M83), the record reveals a distinct artistic voice shaped by memory, emotion, and sonic detail.
Karen Vogt- Karen Vogtβs album Haunted Woodland Volume Five creates a haunting yet intimate soundscape inspired by a cluster of trees along the Marne River. Using improvised guitar, vocals, and field recordings, she captures the lingering emotions tied to memory and place with a raw, lo-fi warmth.
Lauren Malyon- Lauren Malyonβs Opus 27 marks a new chapter in her ambient music journey, blending budding production skills with deeply personal experiences. Created during her travelsβincluding inspiring moments in a Seoul hotel roomβthis EP explores the idea of home as a feeling carried within. Not available on Bandcamp, so be sure to seek it elsewhere.
Shere Fraser- A self-taught flutist and former flight attendant, Shere now channels her passion into improvisation and composing with a diverse range of flutes while living in Washington state. This is her first time appearing in the mix series!
Ai Yamamoto- Ai Yamamotoβs new album, released via the always-reliable Dronarivm label, is a sonic exploration inspired by Fantastic Fungi, the film by Paul Stamets. Through shimmering melodies and textured soundscapes, she crafts an immersive journey.
Buildings and Food- Provincial Park is
βs love letter to the Canadian wilderness, blending melodic ambient and minimalist IDM inspired by time spent in the backcountry. Each track is a reflection of quiet encounters with natureβand has been a release Iβve had on loop.Elori Saxl- Elori Saxlβs Texada, out April 25 via Western Vinyl, is a beautifully immersive scoreβand a compelling album in its own rightβfor the National Film Board of Canada documentary of the same name. Blending analog synths, baritone saxophone, and elemental field recordings, Saxl crafts a sonic world that is both intimate and expansive.
marine eyes updates
My new project Almost An Island, with my husband James and friend Kenneth James Gibson (who you may know from the band Bell Gardens that he was in with the late, great Brian McBride from Stars of the Lid) has our debut up for pre-order via Past Inside the Presentβs bandcamp. The first taste of the record, What Got Us To Our Feet is available to stream on Bandcamp + all DSPβs too.
I take a lot of photos throughout the month, and lately, the yuccas have been in full bloom here in Southern California. I wanted to leave you with an image of one in bloom, captured along the trails behind my home at sunset with my light-bending tools.
Thanks for your continued support of my EP quiet circle, means the world.
