november women of ambient 🌀
~marine eyes november newsletter~
New month and new women of ambient selections are here!
Head to the Bandcamp playlist first and then the accompanying playlist versions (Tidal, Amazon Music, Apple + Spotify) which feature the occasional songs not available on BC. Thanks for listening, sharing + supporting!
This month’s mix features—
Mia Garcia- San Diego-based artist Mia Garcia continually impresses. I previously featured her in the mix series through her project OHMA (with the incredible Hailey Niswanger), and her latest solo album was an easy choice to include. It’s not strictly ambient by any means, but it shows the depth of her sound. If you haven’t heard her work yet, it’s well worth checking out.
IKSRE (I Keep Seeing Rainbows Everywhere)- I am excited to share a new song from my Australian soul sister and musical collaborator, Naarm/Melbourne-based artist IKSRE (Phoebe Dubar). Her album expansion a (south) out in full in just a few days was written, recorded, and produced entirely off-grid in a solar-powered caravan during her trip across the Australian outback in some of the most untouched landscapes on Earth. A beautiful audio journal well worth listening to in full. Also, be sure to listen to our collaborative album Nurture if you have yet to + follow her here on Substack.
Icey Planet- Happy to have Berlin-based DJ and producer Icey Planet on the mix series for the first time. Her song Waves, showcases her ambient side and handpan explorations. Excited to hear more music from her up ahead.
I.P.U- Tokyo-based artist I.P.U keeps a low profile online, but what she does share speaks volumes. This year, she’s been quietly releasing a series of beautiful singles through the consistently excellent Tokyo label PURRE GOOHN. One of her latest tracks, Aetheris, is a vocal-centric piece that is absolutely stunning.
Dream Crease- Dream Crease’s new track, Mariposa Nocturna created in collaboration with Sounds Right (a music initative with a focus on raising funds for environmental conservation) was built from backyard textures and Argentine bird calls. Marina’s Spanish lyrics tell the whimsical tale of a moth caught in daylight, mistaken for a fairy. This song has been on repeat for me.
Shelley Burgon- I first discovered Shelley Burgon performing with Earthtones (Serge Bandura) at a Leaving Records event in LA. Shelley has studied with Pauline Oliveros and Fred Frith and performed with Björk, Trevor Dunn, and many more. Her debut solo album The In Between is a meditative harp piece recorded live in the Ojai Valley.
Natasha Pirard- Belgium-based Natasha Pirard’s new album Fernande, Cecile feels like sitting quietly with someone you love, remembering things together. This album is her way of holding onto the presence of her mother and late grandmother, making music from memory and care. A pure-hearted listen.
Ship Says Om- Ship Says Om is the ambient-folk project of Jenny Gillespie Mason and on her song Mother Director her ethereal wordless vocals swirl around clarity-filled acoustic guitar pickings. A sweet new discovery of the past month.
Emily Sprague- Well-known as a member of Florist, Emily Sprague has also been releasing solo ambient records since 2017. Her new album Cloud Time via RVNG Intl was recorded across a tour of Japan in the fall of 2024. A wonderful interview with her was recently shared via
’s Zen Sounds, a favorite newsletter of mine. Sharing that here.Dania- When I first heard Dania’s EP Voz released on Geographic North in 2022, I knew I had stumbled upon a musician I would want to keep up with. Not only is her music continuously shifting, her life story is wildly interesting as well. Born in Baghdad, raised in Tasmania and now based in Barcelona, Dania is also an emergency room doctor and label owner (Paralaxe Editions). Her new album Listless was all written after midnight and although there are moments of has ambient leanings, the album traverses a lot of sounds. This will be up there as a favorite of 2025.
marine eyes updates
My husband James and I have been releasing music together as awakened souls for five years now (with earlier projects dating back to 2014). To celebrate this milestone, we’ve released a meditative track titled lua.
Back in late September, I released a collaborative song with my friend B9 (Shaan Chhadva) called gehrai in e. We’ve now come together again, with me reworking his track 12:24am from his project picture frames. Out now on We Speak In Poems, the label run by Brady Kendall (Alaskan Tapes). I’m really proud of this one. Find it here.
My band, Almost An Island, did an interview with the wonderful
